Senator Gregg Schmedes’ "No Forced Vaccination" Bill Clears First Committee

SANTA FE – Today, the Senate Health and Public Affairs Committee voted to advance Senate Bill 232 with bipartisan support. The bill, introduced by Senator Gregg Schmedes (District 19-Bernalillo, Sandoval, Santa Fe, and Torrance), adds “for reasons of conscience” to the current list of reasons to legally refuse a vaccine.

“Like most New Mexicans, I believe decisions regarding vaccines are personal,” said Senator Schmedes. “No one should be forced to get a vaccine they feel uncomfortable receiving. The preservation of our right to refuse vaccinations is just as important as our right to access to them. This bill simply codifies your right to bodily autonomy.”

Senate Bill 232 will now advance to the Senate Judiciary Committee.
