Senate Republican Leader, Senator Greg Baca, and Senator Mark Moores Issue Statement Following Conclusion of Special Session
SANTA FE — The first Special Session of 2022 concluded this evening after a short one-day meeting. At the conclusion, the Legislature sent two key bills to the Governor’s desk—a slightly revised junior appropriations bill and legislation to provide tax rebates and assistance payments to New Mexico residents.
“We commend our colleagues in the Legislature for coming in to clean up the Governor’s mess. The funding and rebates we appropriated will not repair the damage inflicted by this administration over the past three years. They will, however, provide some timely relief for hardworking New Mexicans dealing with record-high inflation and skyrocketing gas prices,” said Senate Republican Leader, Senator Greg Baca (District 29-Bernalillo and Valencia).
“The Governor cannot erase her history of vindictive and failed leadership with bread and circuses,” added Senate Republican Caucus Chair, Senator Mark Moores (District 21-Bernalillo). “We all know why we were here. She made an erroneous and vindictive veto of funds for children, veterans, and seniors. Though the Governor and her team will sell this backtrack as a victory, this is a quintessential example of a failed administration driven by politics instead of good governance.”
