Senate Republican Leader, Senator Greg Baca, condemns Forest Service Failures, Missteps by Governor Lujan Grisham and President Biden
SANTA FE – The U.S. Forest Service today released a review of the April 6 prescribed burn that sparked the largest wildfire in state history, the Hermits Peak fire. The report detailed repeated negligence when preparing for and executing the burn.
In response to the report, Senate Republican Leader, Senator Greg Baca (District 29 - Belen), issued the following statement:
“The Governor’s use of this report to try and wash herself of blame for the fire’s severity is a false flag. It took a month for her to get President Biden to declare a disaster and she was noticeably absent during the fire’s onset.”
“We expect accountability and expediency from our executive officials during a tragedy—not delays and deflecting. Though the USFS sparked the fire, the missteps of the Governor and the President fanned the flames. It is time to stop the distractions and political pandering, and begin the process of making the impacted families and communities whole.”
