Senate Republican Leader, Senator Greg Baca, Issues Statement on Governor’s Veto of Junior Bill, Calls for Extraordinary Session
SANTA FE — In an obvious slight to the legislative branch of government, Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham today vetoed Senate Bill 48, also known as the “Junior Bill.” The bill included funding for multiple needs across the state not covered under the general appropriations bill.
Senate Republican Leader, Senator Greg Baca (District 29-Bernalillo and Valencia), issued the following statement in response to the Governor’s action:
“The veto of this legislation is a shameless attempt to beat the legislative branch into submission and again eat away at our appropriating authority. The Junior Bill contained funding for law enforcement, senior centers, the courts, and other critical needs throughout the state. I call on my colleagues in the Senate and House to convene the Legislature in extraordinary session for the purpose of overriding this unconscionable and irresponsible veto.”
