Senate Republican Leadership Responds to Turnover at CYFD


SANTA FE – Today, Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham announced that Secretary Brian Blalock at the Children, Youth, and Families Department as been relieved. Former New Mexico Supreme Court Justice Barbara Vigil will take his place.


Senate Republican leaders issued the following statement after the announcement:


“The Children, Youth, and Families Department was in dire need of new leadership and we welcome this change. At the same time, we remain deeply concerned about the chronic turnover in this administration and the unresolved scandals and issues within the agency. New Mexicans deserve answers, especially when it comes to the safety and well-being of children in the state’s care.”


“We wish Justice Vigil all the best as she assumes this position and begins the difficult task of rebuilding public trust in this vital department.”
