Senator Craig Brandt Introduces Education Freedom Act Legislation would give parents the freedom to choose the best K-12 education for their children

SANTA FE — Senate Republican Whip, Senator Craig Brandt (District 40-Rio Rancho), today announced his introduction of the Education Freedom Act. The bill aims to widen the range of educational choices for parents by allowing them to choose the best school for their children.

Senator Brandt issued the following statement regarding the bill:

“All students, regardless of their circumstances or zip code, deserve access to a high-quality education. The wealthy have always been afforded options for their children’s schooling and it is time we make those options available to everyone else.”

“Parents should not be forced to reenroll their child in a failing school year after year. Trapping students in failing schools has caused many of the inequities we have today, and until we prioritize students over systems, New Mexico will continue to be at the bottom of education in America.”

The Education Freedom Act seeks to use some of the state’s historic surplus revenue to create a new fund completely separate from the Public Education Department's budget.
