Senator Crystal Diamond Advances Bill for Greater Transparency in Public School Spending
SANTA FE – This afternoon, Senate Bill 24 was passed in the Senate Finance Committee. The bill mandates that the Public Education Department (PED) report how they used the $1.5 billion dollars received from the Federal Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief Fund during the pandemic.
Senator Crystal Diamond (R-Elephant Butte) issued the following statement regarding the advancement of her bill:
“We need to ensure that the taxpayers of New Mexico receive a return on their investment for our children. As a state, we are spending more on public education than ever before, and this accountability measure will help us see where these federal dollars went, and if they made an impact.“
