Senator Greg Nibert, Senator Steven McCutcheon Denounce the Passage of Senate Bill 204
Bill will ban lawful carry of firearms in public parks
SANTA FE—Today, Democrats on the Senate Health and Human Services Committee advanced Senate Bill 204 on a party-line vote of 5-2. Senator Greg Nibert (R-Roswell) and Senator Steven McCutcheon (R-Carlsbad) voted against the measure. The bill attempts to legitimize Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham’s unconstitutional gun ban imposed through a public health order several months ago.
“As an attorney, it’s disheartening to see such a blatant violation of the Second Amendment being pushed to appease the will of the Governor,” said Senator Greg Nibert (R-Roswell). “I’m grateful to the committee for accepting my amendment to exclude concealed carry licensees from the law but that is the bare minimum. I hope the Senate considers what is best for our families rather than appeasing one person on the fourth floor and rejects this bill outright.”
“My wife and I have four beautiful children who love parks. I can assure you that our kids are safer with responsibly armed parents who can meet any threat that faces our kids, especially when we know gun-free zones do not deter dangerous criminals,” added Senator Steven McCutcheon (R-Carlsbad).
