Senator Mark Moores Releases Statement on Governor’s and Mayor’s “Tactical Response” to Albuquerque Crime Wave

“Democrats’ approach to crime is apathy until tragedy."

SANTA FE – Today, Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham announced the deployment of New Mexico State Police officers in Albuquerque to target violent crime. The move comes as Albuquerque has now matched its all-time annual homicide record just eight months into the year.

Senator Mark Moores (District 21-Bernalillo) issued the following statement:

“The Democrats’ approach to crime is apathy until tragedy.”

“The revolving door of crime in Albuquerque lays primarily at the feet of the District Attorney’s office and our judges. Meanwhile, the Mayor has allowed our city to burn while ‘defund the police’ progressives in the legislature add fuel to the fire. Ironically, these Democrats, who slander law enforcement and scoff at our crime bills, are now asking State Police officers to again put themselves in harm’s way and crush the criminal insurrection taking place under their watch. Needless to say, this move by the Governor, Mayor, and District Attorney, though much needed, reeks of hypocrisy and political grandstanding.”

“I pray for safety and discernment for all law enforcement who now face the monumental task of holding back the tide of crime in Albuquerque, including the Albuquerque Police Department, the Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Office, and the New Mexico State Police. I can only hope that Democratic leadership will see the effects of their failed, regressive policies and partner with us in our continued effort to end the crime epidemic gripping our city and state."
