Senator William Burt Advances Legislation to Support McBride Fire Recovery Efforts

SANTA FE – Today, Senate Bill 430, sponsored by Senator William Burt (R-Alamogordo), cleared the Senate Conservation Committee with unanimous support. The bill appropriates $20 million in funding to support recovery efforts resulting from the 2022 McBride Fire.

“I want to thank my colleagues for recognizing the needs of my community and advancing this important piece of legislation,” said Senator Burt. “Wildfires continue to devastate New Mexico each year and this funding will provide some much needed support as we work to rebuild and recover from the damage of the McBride Fire.”

The McBride Fire was ignited on April 12, 2022, and quickly spread into neighboring residential areas. Over 6,000 acres were burned and over 200 homes were lost.
