Senators Greg Baca and David Gallegos Respond to Governor’s Statement on “Clean” Vehicles

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE August 5, 2021 Contact: Joaquin Romero joaquin.romero@nmlegis.gov (505) 506-5798 Senators Greg Baca and David Gallegos Respond to Governor’s Statement on “Clean” Vehicles SANTA FE – Today, Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham released a statement in support of the Biden Administration’s push for “clean vehicle standards.” The push would force automobile manufacturers to rapidly phase out production of combustion engines in place of electric vehicles. “I hope the Governor realizes that her push for allegedly clean cars is a luxury only her wealthy friends can afford,” said Senator Greg Baca (District 29-Valencia and Bernalillo). “These new regulations are among the most regressive we have seen and they jeopardize the oil and gas revenues upon which our state’s budget so heavily relies.” “Clean vehicles only means clean to those who care about appearances—not those who care about substance,” added Senator David Gallegos (District 41-Eddy and Lea). “When we destroy our at-home energy producers, we raise the cost of production, we become heavily reliant on other countries, and we hit our working families’ wallets at the pump. New Mexico is not California and we need the Governor to stop following in the steps of their radical agenda.” ###
